When do you meet as a group? Do I have to attend the meetings to join?
- We meet once a month - usually on Mondays, although it may vary depending on what's going on. The meetings will always be posted on this website, on the Drama Bulletin Board (in music wing), through Remind texts and in the announcements. You do not have to attend meetings to participate in our activities, but we strongly advise it so you're up-to-date on everything we're doing.
What shows do you produce each year?
- In general we produce around 7 shows a year. Those shows are: The Freshman Play, Fall Play, Winter Play, Black History Play, One-Act Plays (Student-Directed), Spring Musical, and the Children's Play. We also hold auditions for an IHSA competition piece known as Group Interpretation. Plenty of opportunity for anyone who wants to be involved!
How do I audition?
- We have auditions for all of our shows individually. Typically, each audition process will require you to fill out an audition form and prepare a short monologue/scene (one provided or one you find yourself). After you perform your monologue/scene, the director will determine how to cast the show. This process may differ depending on the show and director, but all of our auditions are open and waiting for you to participate! Get audition info on our bulletin board (in the music wing) or on our Auditions Page.
Who do I contact?
- It depends on what you want! Here's a quick rundown:
- Tech Crew, Stage Crew, other tech needs: Mr. Evans (email above)
- Thespian Society Info: Mrs. Rubin (email above)
- Audition Info: Specific show director
- Activities: Mr. Haywood (email above)
What can I do to be involved in DGS Drama?
- There are many things you can do! The first is to attend our monthly meetings or check this website to stay informed. You can also audition for any of our major productions. If you can't commit to the amount of time a full production would require, then consider participating in some of our club activities. For a list of those activities, see the next question!
Does the Drama Club do anything besides plays?
- Workshops - if you'd be interested in learning more about auditioning, stage combat, stage makeup, Shakespeare, and more, then attend our workshops (typically one per month)
- Show Trips - if you're interested in seeing professional theatre, then consider joining us on one of the many trips we have planned to see area theatre!
- Theatre Fest - each January, we attend the Illinois High School Theatre Festival. It's the best festival of its kind in the nation. For more info, check out the Theatre Fest page!
- Work behind the scenes for the productions- try your hand at costumes, make-up, directing, ushering, set/sound/lights... there are a bunch of possibilities beyond being on stage!
